Many , myself included, consider the optics of these older Black Beauty American Optical microscopes to be superior anything which came later. This is a gorgeous instrument, all brass and glass with absolutely no cheap plastic anywhere in its construction. I can speak from first hand experience that the optics of these microscopes are absolutely superb.
